Prince Harry reportedly viewed his relationship with Meghan Markle as a pathway to a transformed life in the United States, filled with popularity and the Hollywood spotlight. The Duke of Sussex, who left his royal duties in the UK in 2020 seeking privacy, envisioned a new beginning in California alongside Meghan, expecting she would help guide them into the world of Hollywood.

Royal expert Tina Brown shared insights into Harry’s motivations on The Ankler podcast, suggesting he was captivated by Meghan’s confidence and experience in the entertainment industry. “He [Harry] was terribly impressed by Meghan,” Brown noted. “He thought that she knew all. She persuaded him that she was the savvy Hollywood wheeler-dealer who could come in and make them stars and all the rest of it. And he just sort of blindly followed her like a child, really.”

As the couple continues to navigate their life in the U.S., recent news of Prince Harry’s acquisition of property in Portugal suggests they are broadening their horizons. Interestingly, the property is near his cousin Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank’s holiday home, potentially providing a family connection for their children, Archie and Lilibet, with their cousins in Europe.

Royal author Hugo Vickers commented on this development, telling The Sun, “I think the connection between the Brooksbank children and Prince Harry’s children could be very significant as the years go on because they will know their cousins as they grow up. And that could be a very nice way in.”

Vickers also reflected on how this family tie might impact Archie and Lilibet as they grow older, particularly in relation to their British royal roots. “I have always thought that it’s very sad for Archie and Lilibet, that one day it’ll dawn on them that their cousin is going to be the King of England,” he said. “Normally, you’d really rather like to get involved with all that, I would have thought. It could be a very interesting extension to life, and so that could be a wonderful route in.”

For Prince Harry, these connections and plans seem to reflect his ongoing efforts to build a life that balances privacy, independence, and a connection to family tradition, blending the Hollywood world he imagined with the roots he left behind.
