Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s neighbors in Montecito, California, are reportedly growing frustrated and “fed up” with the couple’s presence in the area, with some wishing they would relocate. One neighbor even mentioned they “cannot wait for her to go.” The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who left the Royal Family in January 2020, moved to their £12 million Montecito mansion later that year with their children, Archie and Lilibet.

According to the Scottish Daily Express, some of their neighbors have expressed displeasure about the high-profile couple’s impact on the community. One anonymous neighbor harshly told The News they “cannot wait for her [Meghan Markle] to go.”

Frank McGinity, an 88-year-old navy veteran who lives nearby, had a less critical but still telling encounter with the couple. He claimed he was “turned away” when he approached the Sussexes’ gates to offer local history films on a CD, hoping to help them settle into the area. “They’re not interested,” Frank shared in his memoir, Get Off Your Street, describing how he was dismissed by the couple’s security team.

Frank also expressed surprise at the Sussexes’ decision to move to the Riven Rock Estate, noting that the area is typically home to older residents. “We don’t see them very much around here,” he told the Montecito Journal.

Other neighbors have voiced their disappointment as well. Richard Mineards, a Montecito local, told The Telegraph that sightings of Prince Harry are rare, noting that he’s occasionally seen cycling or walking with his security team. Meghan, meanwhile, is spotted from time to time having lunch with friends or shopping at a local market.

Earlier this year, Barry Maher, another neighbor, told The Mirror about the growing frustrations surrounding the Sussexes’ “traveling soap opera.” Maher, who works in PR and communications, noted that while residents of the affluent area are no strangers to wealth, patience towards Harry and Meghan has worn thin. He pointed out that some locals view the couple with “unlimited tolerance,” while others are frustrated by the constant media attention they bring.

The Sussexes’ popularity has waned since their public criticism of the Royal Family in their Netflix docuseries and Harry’s controversial memoir Spare, leaving their neighbors in Montecito divided over their presence in the community.
