“Excited to Speak” Trump’s Attorney Alina Habba Criticized Ahead of RNC Speech
Former President Donald Trump’s attorney, Alina Habba, proudly announced her speaking slot at the Republican National Convention on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday evening. “Excited to speak at the @GOP tonight at 8 PM Eastern!” wrote Habba, who has defended Trump in several high-profile cases, including the E. Jean Carroll defamation trial in Manhattan, where she was frequently reprimanded by the court for procedural errors.
“I’ll be sharing a different side of President Trump, shedding light on the man behind the headlines. Looking forward to a beautiful evening together.” She accompanied this with a picture of herself holding her fist in the air. Her announcement was met with widespread criticism on social media, including from legal experts.
Never Trump conservative attorney George Conway wrote, “She will give tips to the faithful about how to offer exhibits into evidence.” MSNBC legal commentator Katie Phang responded, “She’d actually need to know how to do that first…” Conway retorted, “I thought Judge Kaplan taught her how,” referencing Judge Lewis Kaplan, who had several contentious exchanges with Habba during the Carroll trial.
Critics on social media didn’t hold back. The account @BruteForceSwim wrote, “Maybe you should go back to law school! You are a lawyer who doesn’t know how to present evidence at a trial.” Another account, @marcuscorrigan, commented, “When you have to pad out your convention with family and your own lawyers, just to keep the grift alive… Let’s hear from the lawyers he stopped paying… that would be interesting.”
The account @AzJ2rk added, “So proud of the convicted felon. Does she realize Trump & Vance believe women should stay in abusive marriages, & should die if they have complications with pregnancy? Does she realize Republicans really do not respect her bc she’s female?”
Despite the backlash, Habba took the stage and continued to defend Trump, claiming that all criminal charges against him were fabricated and asserting, “We are winning.” The mockery on social media persisted, with Phang reacting to her speech with a simple, “Lmao.”
Habba’s presence at the convention and the subsequent reactions highlight the polarizing nature of Trump’s legal battles and the loyalty of his inner circle, even amid widespread criticism. Her speech aimed to humanize Trump and reinforce his defense, but it also sparked further debate and derision among his detractors.
