New video shows South Carolina newlywed couple traveling before being hit by alleged drunk driver
New surveillance footage shows newlyweds Aric Hutchinson and Samantha Miller driving along a road in Folly Beach, South Carolina, minutes before an intoxicated driver crashed into them, killing the bride, according to law enforcement officials.
According to Folly Beach Police Chief Andrew Gilreath, the video shows the newlyweds traveling down the road on a golf cart and the suspected drunk driver, Jamie Lee Komoroski, racing down the same road approximately two minutes later.
According to Gilreath, the video was filmed a few streets away from the accident site after the couple departed their wedding celebration on April 28. The footage also shows first responders racing to the site four minutes after the fast car is seen.
According to Yahoo News, Samantha was traveling in a golf cart-style vehicle with Hutchinson and two others when the motorist hit them, forcing the cart to roll numerous times and injuring three passengers, two of whom were critically injured, according to Gilreath.
The golf cart-style vehicle, which was decorated with cans and a “just married” sign, “was quite mangled, and it was on its side,” according to Gilreath. According to him, first responders attempted to revive Miller, but she died on the spot.
According to online court documents, Komoroski, 25, was charged with one count of reckless murder and three charges of felony DUI causing grievous bodily harm. According to Gilreath, her car was speeding at 65 mph in a 25 mph zone.
According to the South Carolina Legislature, low-speed vehicles are permitted to travel on highways with speed limits of 35 mph or less. Gilreath stated that the wedding couple’s car was legally on the road that night.
According to CNN affiliate WCIV, Komoroski appeared in court on May 19 and was refused bond. In asking for bail, her lawyers suggested that Komoroski enroll and finish an inpatient rehabilitation program, then remain at her mother’s New Jersey home without access to alcohol or a motor vehicle, according to WCIV.
Komoroski is being detained without bond, and her next court appearance is scheduled for June 16, according to Charleston County online records.
