Democrats are energized this weekend as they consider the possibility that Vice President Kamala Harris, a former prosecutor, might be taking the fight directly to the ex-president and convicted felon Donald Trump.

Trump’s own niece, Mary Trump, highlighted a powerful quote from Harris in 2019. “I prosecuted sex predators. Trump is one. I shut down for-profit scam colleges. He ran one,” Harris said at the time. “I held big banks accountable. He’s owned by them. I’m not just prepared to take on Trump, I’m prepared to beat him.”

“This, my friends, is what they call a mic drop,” Mary Trump said on Sunday, sharing a screenshot of the quote. But she wasn’t the only one to pick up on that same theme. Democratic Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) simply said, “November 5: the Prosecutor vs. the Felon” as per reports The New York Times.

Twitter user @JoJoFromJerz wrote, “A convicted felon rapist running to stay out of prison is going to lose to a female former prosecutor who put scumbags like him behind bars for a living.”

Arizona Congressman Greg Stanton added his endorsement: “I’m proud to endorse [Harris]. The contrast in this race could not be clearer—a prosecutor versus a convicted felon. A champion for America’s fundamental freedoms versus a man who has tried to rip them away at every turn. Let’s get to work.”

The anti-Trump conservative group known as the Lincoln Project also echoed this sentiment. “Prosecutor vs. a convicted felon. Which one do you think respects the rule of law?” the group asked.

The momentum behind Harris’s campaign has been building since President Joe Biden announced he would step aside, clearing the path for her presidential bid. Her background as a prosecutor and her previous confrontations with Trump are now central themes in her campaign.

Harris’s supporters believe her legal background uniquely positions her to take on Trump, who has faced multiple legal challenges and criminal convictions. The framing of the upcoming election as a battle between a prosecutor and a convicted felon resonates with many voters who are looking for accountability and justice.

As Harris continues to gather endorsements and energize the Democratic base, her campaign’s narrative is set to focus on her qualifications and Trump’s legal troubles. This strategy aims to highlight the stark differences between the candidates and appeal to voters who value integrity and the rule of law.

With the 2024 election approaching, the dynamic between Harris and Trump promises to be a defining feature of the campaign. The support from high-profile figures like Mary Trump and the Lincoln Project, along with grassroots enthusiasm, indicates that Harris’s message is resonating widely. As the campaign progresses, the focus on her prosecutorial record and Trump’s criminal history will likely intensify, shaping the discourse and influencing voter sentiment.
