Jon Stewart delivered a sharp critique Monday on The Daily Show, urging viewers to “saddle up la resistance” in response to Donald Trump’s impending presidency. Stewart didn’t hold back as he analyzed the left’s warnings and reactions, taking aim at both Democratic leaders and their rhetoric.

Stewart opened by revisiting dire pre-election warnings from prominent Democrats. He played a montage of statements, including MSNBC host Joe Scarborough declaring “fascism” was on the ballot, Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) comparing Trump’s ambitions to Vladimir Putin or Adolf Hitler, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) cautioning that Trump’s election would be a “betrayal of everything that our framers fought for.”

However, Stewart found the delivery of these warnings unconvincing, particularly mocking Schumer’s lack of passion. Putting on glasses and mimicking Schumer, Stewart quipped, “You know, a little eye contact, a little inflection could drive the danger thing.”

Stewart also targeted Democrats’ post-election spin, particularly Rep. Goldman’s assertion on MSNBC that the party had flipped three House seats and regained “almost all” lost in 2022. Stewart dismissed this optimism with biting humor, saying, “‘Almost’ is doing a lot of work in that sentence. You can’t say, ‘We gained back almost all of the children we lost on the field trip.’ Win-win!”

The president wasn’t spared either. Stewart expressed disbelief at Joe Biden’s trip to the Amazon rainforest amid political turmoil. After showing a clip of Biden addressing climate change, Stewart exclaimed, “What the f—? In the middle of all this, he disappeared to the rainforest?”

He criticized Democrats’ inability to effectively counter Trump, pointing to a lack of strategic urgency. Stewart lambasted Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski for visiting Trump at Mar-a-Lago to discuss deportations and other topics, calling the move tone-deaf. “We’ve learned nothing!” he shouted. “Even those resisting Trump’s agenda don’t seem to understand who they’re dealing with.”

Concluding his monologue, Stewart described government as a “Byzantine, bureaucratic maze” filled with rules and loopholes. He chastised Democrats for clinging to norms while Republicans exploited every advantage. “They don’t give a f— about your norms,” Stewart said. “Democrats need to become the loophole guys—the ones who figure out how to get s— done.” With a mix of humor and urgency, Stewart underscored his call for Democrats to shift tactics and prepare for the challenges ahead.
