Hillary Clinton Takes a Sharp Jab at Trump Over His Soft Spot for Putin

Hillary Clinton didn’t need a long speech to make her point about Donald Trump’s cozy relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin. In fact, just six words were enough.
On Sunday, the former secretary of state and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee took to X to share a Gizmodo report detailing a controversial move by Trump’s newly appointed Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth.

According to the report, Hegseth had ordered U.S. Cyber Command to “stand down from all planning against Russia, including offensive digital actions.” In other words, the U.S. military was told to back off from any cyber operations involving Russia—a move that immediately raised alarms about Trump’s stance toward Putin.

Clinton’s post came at a time when Trump was already facing backlash over his recent explosive Oval Office meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. During that meeting, Trump not only criticized Zelensky but also parroted Russian talking points about the war in Ukraine—despite the well-documented fact that Putin was the one who launched the invasion in February 2022.
As the criticism against Trump grew, an old clip from the 2016 presidential debate started making the rounds on social media again. In the video, Clinton had warned voters about Trump’s ties to Russia, a message that now seems even more relevant in light of his latest decisions.
With just a single post, Clinton managed to reignite the debate over Trump’s handling of U.S.-Russia relations, while also reminding everyone that she had sounded the alarm about this issue years ago.
