“If You Can’t Run a Campaign, You Can’t Run America”: Democratic Donor Slams Kamala Harris After Election Loss
Vice President Kamala Harris’ failed 2024 presidential campaign, despite raising $1.5 billion, has drawn sharp criticism from Democratic megadonor John Morgan, who claims the defeat “disqualifies her forever” from running for office again. Speaking to NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo on Monday, Morgan argued that Harris’ inability to manage her campaign funds undermines her credibility as a leader.
“I think this disqualifies her forever,” Morgan said. “If you can’t run a campaign, you can’t run America.” The vice president’s campaign reportedly burned through its $1.5 billion war chest in just over 100 days, with expenditures including $494 million on advertising and $900,000 to project Harris’ image onto the Las Vegas Sphere—a state she ultimately lost.
Morgan suggested that the massive spending spree resembled a “Mad Max”-style event, where money may have been squandered or “stolen legally.” “All of a sudden, everybody’s got the key to the candy store—ad buyers, talent, consultants. There’s a hundred days to do it, and the money starts pouring in,” Morgan said, adding that the donations were less about supporting Harris and more about opposing Donald Trump.
“It wasn’t pouring in for Harris; it was pouring in against Trump.” Morgan also criticized Harris’ campaign strategy and performance, calling it “terrible” despite her solid debate performance. “I told everybody she should not have been the nominee. She was not gonna win, and she didn’t win. She lost badly,” he said, adding that donors are left wondering where the money went.
The donor pointed to internal party tensions, noting that other powerful Democrats, including Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi, were hesitant to back Harris. Morgan claimed that President Biden’s endorsement of Harris was an act of defiance against Pelosi, Obama, and other party leaders.
“Obama did not want her. Obama did not endorse her for five days. Pelosi did not want her,” Morgan said, referencing reports that Pelosi had discouraged California Democrats from prematurely backing Harris. Morgan concluded with a blunt call for Harris to reconsider her political ambitions.
“She needs to figure out her life,” he said, pointing out that Harris skipped a White House farewell event for donors to vacation in Hawaii. Morgan’s remarks reflect broader frustrations within the Democratic Party over Harris’ campaign and the decisions that led to her nomination, as questions loom about her political future.
