Former President Donald Trump, known for his controversial relationships and numerous accusations of harassment, once went on a date with actress Candice Bergen. Bergen, best known for her role in Murphy Brown, recently shared details of her brief and underwhelming encounter with Trump, which occurred when she was just starting her studies at the Wharton School of Business.

In an interview with Harry Connick Jr., Bergen revealed that the date took place when she was 18 and in her first year of college. She described it as a “blind date,” one she agreed to only because she had nothing better to do that evening. “I was in college, and it’s where he was going to be going to college… It was like a blind date,” she explained, according to Entertainment Weekly. The evening didn’t make much of an impression on Bergen, who labeled the date a “dud” and noted that it didn’t last very long.

Although she admitted that Trump was “nice-looking” at the time, Bergen found the evening largely uneventful. One detail that stood out for her was Trump’s memorable fashion choice. He arrived in a matching burgundy ensemble, complete with a three-piece suit, patent leather boots, and a burgundy limousine to match. According to TIME, Bergen recalled his appearance, saying, “He was a good-looking guy. And a douche.”

In contrast to Bergen’s indifference, Trump reportedly had a more favorable view of her. As reported by The Hill, Trump later described Bergen as “so beautiful” and admitted to making a move. He acknowledged her rejection, saying, “I did make the move. And I must say, she had the good sense to say, ‘absolutely not.’” Despite their one-time encounter, Bergen never developed a fondness for Trump, nor did their shared history influence her political leanings.

She supported Hillary Clinton during Trump’s first presidential campaign and has since been vocal in her criticism of Trump’s policies and political allies. Bergen also shared another tidbit from her past, revealing during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert that she had also gone on a date with former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. When asked to compare her experiences, she decisively declared Kissinger to be the better date.

While Bergen’s brief encounters with prominent figures like Trump and Kissinger may have made for interesting stories, her love life ultimately found stability elsewhere. She was married to French film director Louis Malle from 1981 until his death in 1995, and the couple had a daughter, Chloe Malle. For the past two decades, Bergen has been married to real estate magnate Marshall Rose.
