Tropics of Bahia Honda State Park
One of the most beautiful tropical destinations of Florida Keys is Bahia Honda State Park. Today, this USA vacation resort offers perfect opportunities to one of Florida’s southernmost state parks, known for beautiful beaches, magnificent sunsets and great snorkeling.
Some of the prominent travel magazines of the world have called one of the beaches at Bahia Honda State Park, about 45 minutes from Key West and 17 minutes from Marathon, the most beautiful in Florida and some even rank it as one of the best in the world.
This is one of the renowned luxury resorts in USA where you view the crystal clear water, the soft sand and beautiful vibrant corals. On one side of the park, there is a beach on Bahia Honda Channel where the waters are quite deep and the currents swift and strong. If you go on the other side you will find deep waters. These waters provide great opportunities for swimming and snorkeling. Picnic areas, rest rooms, and outside showers are located near the beaches.
The island of Bahia Honda State Park is made of Key Largo limestone, derived from a coral reef similar to the present day reefs of the Keys. Thousands of years ago, a drop in the sea level indicated exposed portions of the ancient reef, forming islands; Bahia Honda is the southernmost key where this formation is evident.
The shore is decorated with complex biological communities. Here you will see subtropical flowers spread across 524 acres. Bahia Honda State Park is a home to a tangled jungle of silver and thatch palms, key spider and tiger lily, sea lavender, bay cedar, gumbo-limbo and satinwood. You can see tropical birds like white or blue herons, gulls, egrets, and pelicans flying everywhere.
An historical treasure stands where Bahia Honda Channel meets the Atlantic Ocean. Constructed in 1917, the Old Bahia Honda Bridge was originally part of the Overseas Railroad built by Henry Flagler. Old Bahia Honda Bridge is one of the most photographed structures in the Keys.
Looe Key Reef, 12 miles from the park provides a quiet recreational way to explore the fabulous waters around the park. Charter boats and guides are generally available during Tarpon season.
There are three camping areas within the park for tent and RV campers. Visitors have to book the campsites two weeks in advance and are rented out on a ‘first-come, first-served basis.’
You can stay at this USA vacation resort for two weeks and if you are a day visit there is a per person entrance fee.
So if you are planning to visit this beautiful luscious vacation resort in USA, April through October is the best time when you will see the elusive sea turtle nests here and feel the softness of sand and breezy wind blowing.
