Teen Couple Allegedly Kills Grandma After She Refuses to Let Boyfriend Stay Over

A teenage couple accused of killing the girl’s grandmother and fleeing across Texas has been arrested after allegedly cutting and dyeing their hair to evade police. Tara King, 17, and her 18-year-old boyfriend, Uriah Ureck, were captured in Laredo on Sunday and booked into the Galveston County Jail on Monday night.

The pair faces charges of capital murder and credit or debit card abuse in the death of 61-year-old Tammy King, Tara’s grandmother. Tammy King was found shot to death inside her Bacliff home on February 5 after her boyfriend requested a welfare check, KTRK reported.

Deputies from the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office discovered her body in the 4700 block of 15th Street, noting that the home had been ransacked and guns were missing from a bedroom safe. A concerned neighbor reported that no one had heard from Tammy since the Tuesday before her body was discovered.

Court records reveal that Tammy and Tara had argued about Tara skipping school prior to the killing. Investigators also found Cash App transactions from Tammy’s account to Tara’s, suggesting financial motives. During their time on the run, the couple allegedly attempted to sell stolen guns and sought rides to Wyoming, FOX 26 Houston reported.

Police say they offered money to acquaintances for assistance, with Tara telling one friend, “I’m not going to be able to talk to my family after this.” The medical examiner confirmed Tammy died from gunshot wounds. After a days-long manhunt, authorities tracked the teens to Laredo, where they were arrested without incident.

Video of their arrival at the Galveston County Jail shows the pair wearing striped jumpsuits. The case has shocked the Bacliff community, with neighbors expressing disbelief over the brutal crime. Tara and Ureck remain in custody as the investigation continues, with prosecutors likely to pursue severe penalties given the capital murder charge.
