Mother sentenced for leaving her 6-month-old son freeze to death at the cemetery
According to court documents, the 30-year-old mother was sentenced on Monday to 8 to 11 years in prison for the death of her 6-month-old son in February 2020. The child’s body has been found in a cemetery.
An autopsy showed that the boy died as a result of hypothermia caused by being exposed to temperatures below freezing. Investigators searching for the missing mother and child stated at the time that she may have suffered from mental health issues.
Tamara Brown, a 30-year-old mother from North Carolina, was initially charged with murder, according to prosecutors. She pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, felony child abuse, and common law robbery.
According to reports, her 6-month-old son, Chi-Liam Cody Brown-Erickson, was found dead at Sharon Memorial Park cemetery on February 22, 2020, just days after he was last seen alive.
Following her sentence, the mother must serve 36 months of probation.
If the mother violates the terms of her probation, she confronts an extra 13 to 25 months in prison, according to prosecutors.
At the time, investigators searching for the missing mother and child stated that “she was possibly suffering from mental health issues.”
The 30-year-old mother was arrested a few days before the 6-month-old boy was found for stealing a man’s iPhone and biting and spitting at police officers.
During an interview with investigators, the woman allegedly refused to reveal the location of her son.
