Mom of Six Allegedly Shot Dead While Celebrating Her 29th Birthday with Family

A Chicago mother of six, Jamia Taylor, tragically lost her life after being shot while celebrating her 29th birthday on the city’s South Side. Taylor, whose youngest child is just 11 months old, was shot in the chest in the 1800 block of East 79th Street around 5:20 a.m. on Thursday, February 13, according to Chicago police.
She was rushed to the University of Chicago Hospital but succumbed to her injuries, leaving behind six children ranging in age from 11 months to 12 years old. Taylor, known on social media as ‘Mya Da Baddie,’ worked two jobs in retail and security to support her family.

Her sudden death has left her loved ones devastated and searching for answers, as no motive has been identified for her murder. “It still feels like a dream,” said Tomanita Whitehorn, Taylor’s mother. “All of it seems like it’s a dream. Everything.”
Whitehorn described her daughter as “pretty, smart, intelligent” and someone who always looked out for others. “Whenever anybody needed something, she helped them out, so why would they do this to my baby? I just don’t understand.”
Whitehorn also expressed concern for Taylor’s children, who are now left without their mother. “What are my grandbabies gonna do? They don’t understand what’s really going on, and it’s going to be hard that their mom is not here,” she said to ABC7 Chicago.

Chicago Police Department’s Area Four detectives are investigating Taylor’s death as a homicide. As of now, no suspects have been taken into custody, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
The tragedy has shaken the community, highlighting the ongoing issue of gun violence in Chicago. Taylor’s family and friends are left to mourn her loss while grappling with the unanswered questions surrounding her death. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support her children and cover funeral expenses, as the family seeks justice for Jamia Taylor.
