The Kansas City sports community is mourning the sudden loss of Adan Manzano, a beloved sports anchor who died while covering Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.
Manzano, who worked for Telemundo Kansas City and Tico Sports, passed away on Wednesday while on assignment. His station, KGKC-TV, confirmed his death but didn’t share details on how he died. They did say they’re working with law enforcement as the investigation moves forward.
“Adan was a true professional and a rising star, who exemplified excellence in his work,” KGKC said in a statement. “We will deeply miss Adan and his passion for sports, and the contributions he made to the local community. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
If you followed local sports, you probably knew Manzano’s voice. He was in his third season covering the Super Bowl for Telemundo KC and was a key part of Kansas City Chiefs’ Spanish-language broadcasts, delivering sideline coverage with energy and expertise. He also called play-by-play for the Kansas City Current, bringing his enthusiasm for the game to every broadcast.
His colleagues at Tico Sports say Manzano wasn’t just a great broadcaster—he was an all-around great guy.
“Adan was a talented and professional broadcaster, providing sideline coverage for the Kansas City Chiefs Spanish broadcast and play-by-play caller for the KC Current,” the statement read. “He was an enthusiastic and energetic team player who was well-liked and respected. Adan was a devoted father to his young daughter, a helpful colleague, and a loyal friend. He will be greatly missed by our TICO Family and will live on in our hearts and memories.”
Manzano’s road to Kansas City started in Mexico City, where he was born and raised. He moved to Topeka in 2018 and later earned his degree from Kansas State University. His career in sports broadcasting took off quickly, and he became a trusted voice in KC’s sports scene.
Sadly, Manzano had already endured a heartbreaking loss. His wife, Ashleigh Boyd, was killed in a car crash last April. Their young daughter survived, and since then, Manzano had dedicated himself to raising her while continuing his work.
His sudden passing has left his friends, family, and colleagues in shock. While there are still many questions surrounding what happened in New Orleans, one thing is clear—Manzano made a lasting impact on the people who knew him and the fans who tuned in to hear his voice.
For Kansas City sports fans, he was more than just a broadcaster. He was part of the game-day experience. And now, the city says goodbye to a voice that will be deeply missed.
