Video Emerges: Dad Arrested for Allegedly Dragging Newborn Upside Down in Stroller
Surveillance footage reviewed by KMOX captured a disturbing scene in downtown St. Louis, where an unidentified man was seen dragging a stroller face down, with a baby inside. The man eventually released the stroller and walked away, leaving it abandoned on the street. Fortunately, educator Steward Stiles, who works at Voices Academy Charter School, happened to be nearby and quickly sprang into action, told KMOV.
“As soon as he dropped the stroller, I immediately ran to it, picked up the child, picked up the stroller, and called the police,” Stiles said, recounting the incident. At first, he wasn’t even sure there was a real child inside. “I looked in the stroller and thought it was maybe a toy, but when the baby started moving, I was like, ‘Oh my god, this is a real child.’”
Remarkably, the baby appeared unharmed, despite being dragged in the stroller. “The child had no scrapes or bruises, miraculously, because the baby was barely hanging above the ground,” Stiles noted.
Stiles described the infant as quite young. “This was definitely a newborn baby… I’d say no more than two months old. You still had to support the head,” he said.
According to Stiles, the man was initially seen walking down Tucker Boulevard before returning to Olive Street, where he abandoned the baby and was subsequently arrested by police.
While a spokesperson confirmed that a man was arrested for tossing the stroller and baby into the street, they noted that a full report has not yet been completed and additional details are pending. Thanks to Stiles’ quick thinking, the child was saved from what could have been a far worse outcome.
