The brutally beaten, half-naked body of Thayla Aylla, a 24-year-old trans model, was discovered in a vacant lot in Várzea Grande, Amazonas, Brazil, days after she went missing. The circumstances of her death remain unclear, as authorities investigate whether she was stabbed or strangled.

Aylla vanished on December 20, 2024, after leaving for a friend’s party. When she failed to return or communicate, her family reported her disappearance to Brazilian authorities, prompting a search. Tragically, her body was found three days later, on December 23, in an advanced state of decomposition.

The Civil Police of Mato Grosso (PC-MG) reported stab wounds and “marks of violent death.” While the exact cause of death has yet to be confirmed, Nilson Farias, the police chief overseeing the case, suggested that Aylla’s murder might have been committed by a “client after sexual intercourse.”

Speaking to local media, he noted that the area where Aylla was found is notorious for prostitution. “We have identified the main possibility of a knife wound,” Farias said. “However, we need to wait for the autopsy to confirm. Clients often exploit the vulnerable individuals in this area, leading to crimes like this.”

The investigation remains ongoing, with reports from forensic teams suggesting that strangulation may also have played a role in her death. No suspects have been identified yet according to Imediato reported.

Aylla, originally from Manaus, moved to Amazonas in 2020. Her death has ignited outrage within Brazil’s LGBTQ+ community, which continues to call for action against violence targeting trans women. Activists have decried the lack of safety for trans individuals and other marginalized groups, emphasizing the urgent need for systemic change.

Friends and loved ones have taken to social media to mourn Aylla’s death, sharing heartfelt tributes. One close friend described her as a beacon of positivity: “Your life was a passage of love and light in the lives of everyone around you. You illuminated, captivated, and made everything a celebration. I miss you forever! I will love you forever.”

Another reflected on her trusting nature, expressing sorrow over her untimely death. “You were always a good person and trusted anyone who hugged you, and today what I always warned you about happened,” the friend wrote.

Aylla’s tragic death underscores the persistent violence faced by the trans community and highlights the urgent need for justice and protection for all marginalized individuals.
