15-Month-Old Girl Tragically Dies After Babysitter Allegedly Slams Her for Crying
A 15-month-old girl tragically lost her life after allegedly being slammed against the floor by her babysitter, who reportedly became frustrated when the child wouldn’t stop crying. The devastated family of Vivian Jaymes Gardner has paid heartfelt tribute to the young girl, describing her as “joy, light, love, and laughter personified.”
Michael Mayor, 30, has been charged with three counts of murder, endangering children, and felonious assault in connection with Vivian’s death. The incident occurred on December 5, 2024, in Piqua, Ohio, when Mayor was left to watch Vivian while his partner, the regular babysitter, took other children to school.
According to police reports, Mayor admitted to “shaking” and “slamming” the toddler onto the floor of a bedroom in a fit of anger. When the babysitter returned, she found Vivian lying on the floor and believed she was sleeping. However, concern grew when the child failed to wake up throughout the day. Attempts to rouse her at 3 p.m. proved futile, and she was rushed to Dayton Children’s Hospital.
Doctors determined that Vivian had suffered a severe skull fracture, a subdural hematoma, and additional injuries indicative of significant trauma. A neurologist reportedly stated it was the worst brain injury they had ever encountered. Despite being placed on life support for two weeks, Vivian never regained consciousness. She passed away in her mother’s arms on December 19, 2024.
In a GoFundMe campaign, family members shared their grief and appealed for support during this difficult time, noting they are also preparing for the emotional toll of the upcoming court proceedings. “Our sweet, beautiful, precious, funny, and magnetic angel was called home by the Lord,” the statement read.
In a deeply emotional eulogy, her father, Jeremy Gardner, spoke at her funeral, emphasizing the importance of remembering Vivian for her vibrant spirit. “We do NOT want our daughter to be remembered for how she died but for how she lived… She was joy, light, love, and laughter personified, and THAT is what we want to celebrate,” he said.
Vivian’s obituary painted a vivid picture of a joyful child. She loved watching Finding Nemo, Finding Dory, and Moana and adored her older sister Evelyn, with whom she shared countless playful moments. Known for her fiery red hair, sparkling blue eyes, and strong-willed personality, Vivian left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her.
Michael Mayor is currently in custody, and the case is expected to move forward in Miami County courts. Vivian’s family continues to seek justice while cherishing the memories of her short but impactful life.
