Whoopi Goldberg’s red carpet moment at the 2025 Oscars has taken the internet by storm after a lip reader caught a playful exchange between the legendary actress and her daughter, Alex Martin.

As Goldberg made her way down the red carpet, she was asked by an Oscars staff member to “move over further to the right.” In response, she threw a classic Whoopi side-eye, clearly unimpressed by the direction. Lip reader NJ Hickling, speaking to Mirror US, revealed that Martin then told her mom, “I’m bad,” to which Goldberg jokingly fired back, “I’m a good girl.”

Not missing a beat, Martin reminded Goldberg, “Hey, behave, you’re on camera,” before the two burst into laughter. The lighthearted moment quickly became a fan favorite, with social media loving the mother-daughter banter.

Goldberg’s red carpet appearance wasn’t just about the cheeky exchange—it was also about the dress. The View co-host turned heads in a striking strapless gown by Christian Siriano, a rare fashion moment that also revealed a hidden detail: her colorful dragon tattoo on her right shoulder.

Siriano, who designed the gown specifically for Goldberg, explained the inspiration behind the look while speaking to E! Live from the Red Carpet. “She saw this on the runway sitting front row, and I said, ‘You can have that, no problem.’” He described the fabric as “liquid water,” adding, “When it moves, when it blows, that’s what it looks like.”

Goldberg, who was set to present at the ceremony, agreed with Siriano’s description, saying, “That’s a great way to describe it.” The collaboration between the designer and the Oscar winner has been a long-standing one, with Siriano adding, “Whoopi doesn’t wear gowns that often, but we did it tonight and she looks incredible. I will dress Whoopi to the end of my career.”

Ahead of the event, Siriano had teased his Oscars designs on Instagram, sharing a behind-the-scenes look at the glamorous preparations. “OSCAR WEEKEND is almost here and we are almost done! All shapes and sizes will be celebrated on this night!” he wrote on February 27.

Goldberg’s red carpet appearance wasn’t just a standout moment for fashion lovers—it was also a rare chance for fans to see her in a gown, a departure from her usual bold and unique style. But as always, she owned the moment, with a mix of humor, confidence, and a little unexpected sass on the carpet.
