NFL legend Tom Brady took on a new role at this year’s Super Bowl, swapping his football jersey for a tailored suit and a glimmering gold watch that sparked widespread reactions among fans. The 47-year-old, one of the most decorated quarterbacks in NFL history, made his rookie appearance as a Super Bowl analyst for Fox on Sunday, February 9, as the Philadelphia Eagles faced off against the Kansas City Chiefs.

While his sharp dark gray suit, white shirt, and black tie gave him a polished look, it was his extravagant watch that had everyone talking. Brady sported a rare Jacob & Co Yellow Sapphire Caviar Tourbillon watch, reportedly priced at an eye-watering $740,000, according to E! News. Athlon Sports later reported that after taxes, the luxury timepiece’s total cost reached $800,000.

The flashy accessory made waves just months after Brady auctioned off a major portion of his personal watch collection. Dubbed “The GOAT Collection,” the auction saw 41 of his prized timepieces sell for more than $9 million, according to the Daily Mail. The name of the collection was a nod to his seven Super Bowl rings and his standing as one of the greatest players in NFL history.

Brady’s Super Bowl debut as a Fox analyst comes amid major life changes. Just a week before the game, his ex-wife, supermodel Gisele Bündchen, welcomed a baby with her jiu-jitsu instructor boyfriend Joaquim Valente. Brady and Bündchen share two children—Benjamin Rein, 15, and Vivian Lake, 11.

Despite his presence in the broadcast booth, Brady refrained from making bold predictions ahead of the game. However, he previously expressed admiration for Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the prospect of Kansas City securing a three-peat.

“I love Patrick as a player, as a person,” Brady told USA Today in a conference call before the game. “Since he came onto the scene, I couldn’t think any more highly of a player in that position, knowing all that he’s going through, gone through, and will continue to go through to try to accomplish things at the highest level.”

While Super Bowl LIX had no shortage of dramatic moments, Brady’s gold watch became a spectacle of its own. Reactions were mixed, with some fans in awe of its extravagance and others dismissing it as excessive. “It’s glowing like the suitcase in Pulp Fiction,” one user joked. Another quipped, “Just a reminder of how rich he is.”

Some speculated that Brady was paid to wear the watch for promotional purposes. “If he’s smart, they paid him to wear it,” one fan suggested. Others, however, found humor in its bold appearance. “So ugly it’s cool,” one comment read.

Despite the debate over his choice of accessories, Brady’s first Super Bowl as an analyst cemented his next chapter in the sport, even if his gold watch stole some of the spotlight.
