Sam Asghari Defends Britney Spears’ Knife-Dancing Video and Her Creative Freedom

Britney Spears’ infamous knife-dancing video sparked widespread reactions, but her ex-husband, Sam Asghari, refuses to pass judgment. During his February 12 appearance on The Viall Files podcast, the model and actor addressed the September 2023 video, in which Spears danced while wielding two knives—a clip that quickly went viral after their split.

Despite the media frenzy surrounding the moment, Asghari made it clear that he never tried to control Spears’ choices, even during their marriage. “I’m not someone that’s ‘Let me, let me take your phone from you and not allow you to do anything and restrict you from posting your own content,’” Asghari explained, dismissing any notion that he sought to limit Spears’ freedom.
Rather than criticizing her actions, Asghari praised Spears’ creative expression, calling her a “genius artist” with a unique vision. “What’s in her head is gold, and it’s what made her who she is,” he said, emphasizing that dance has always been her way of communicating. He maintained that she has the right to share her content in whatever way she sees fit.
“I’m not gonna be the one that’s gonna stop anybody from posting whatever they want,” he added. Spears and Asghari first met in 2016 on the set of her Slumber Party music video and were together for seven years before finalizing their divorce in May 2024.

While their relationship has ended, Asghari’s remarks indicate that he continues to respect Spears’ autonomy and artistry. As Spears remains in the spotlight, her former husband’s neutral stance highlights his commitment to letting her live on her own terms.
