Nick Cannon Opens Up About Mental Health Journey and Diagnosis of Narcissistic Personality Disorder
Nick Cannon recently revealed that he has been diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder, sharing his mental health journey in an effort to better understand himself and help others.
Speaking to People during the Los Angeles Mission’s Thanksgiving celebration, the Masked Singer host reflected on the significance of embracing his diagnosis. “I still don’t understand it all the way, but I kind of always wanted to get tested,” Cannon admitted.
Previously diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia, Cannon said he has long known he is neurodivergent but is now learning to view this new diagnosis as a tool for growth. “I’ve always known I’m neurodivergent, but now I’m learning to accept and use this diagnosis as a tool for self-improvement.”
Cannon first disclosed his diagnosis on the November 8 episode of the Counsel Culture podcast, where he explained how he identifies with “markers” of narcissistic personality disorder. “I’ve taken the power away from the term ‘narcissism’ by understanding it. I embrace mental health and therapy in such a strong way,” he said.
Balancing his personal growth with a bustling family life, Cannon, a father of 12, remains committed to spending quality time with his children. During the Thanksgiving celebration, he shared his plans to visit multiple homes to celebrate with his kids. “It’s complicated, but every house has something special—sweet potato pie, fried turkey. By the end of the day, I’m full and grateful,” he said.
Looking ahead to December, Cannon is planning festive trips to snowy destinations with his children, including Aspen, Santa’s Village, and Big Bear. “All the kids want to go to the snow, so we’re making it happen,” he shared.
By openly discussing his mental health and embracing therapy, Cannon hopes to encourage others to prioritize self-awareness and growth. His candid reflections highlight the importance of addressing mental health with openness and understanding, both for oneself and for loved ones.
