Review of Oblivion
The movie Oblivion is co-written by Michael Arndy and Karl Gajdusek and based on the unpublished graphic novel of Joseph Kosinski (the director) and edited by Radical Comics. The stars in the movie are Tom Cruise, Olga Kurylenko, Andrea Riseborough, Morgan Freeman, Melissa Leo, Zoe Bell and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. The movie is witty, spectacular and full of twists. The story of the movie unfolds in 2077, when humans won the war against aliens force but unfortunately lost their planet in the war.
The earth is devasted by the aliens and become inhabitable. Jack (Tom Cruise) and Victoria (Andrea Riseborough) is the couple that has a home in clouds. The job of jack is to repair drones who hunt down bands for surviving and to protect massive water-extracting devices that provide water to human colonies. His sexual partner Victoria supports him for this job.
Jack and Victoria have had to wipe their previous memories so that if Scavs captured them, they would not reveal any important thing or info about the Tet where most surviving humans of the war have been lifted apparently. Although Jack has wiped his memories but still he has recurring dreams about a mysterious woman who was on the observation deck of empire state building in a time before the war.
The Movie Oblivion boasts dazzling visuals, whiz bang actions throughout the film. The movie has all the qualities that a science fiction must have. It made the audience feel as if they are on another place and entertain them with a suspenseful story as well. The fiction got twist when Jack rescues a woman named Julia (Olga Kurylenko) who reappears when a NASA capsule crashes and forces him to rethink his mission. Jack recognizes Julia as the woman from his dreams. The strong suits of the movie Oblivion are its visuals that create sense of scope and wonder. Cruise seems ideally suited for the role and did all his shots perfectly according to the role that is why the film Oblivion grossed in excess of $200 million worldwide.
Julia tells Jack that she is his wife while they were climbing the ruins of the empire state building. When they kissed each other, Victoria sees them via her video link to Jack’s ship. Victoria become jealous and informs Sally (Melissa Leo) that she and Jack are no longer an effective team and so Sally activates a drone to kill Victoria. Julia destroyed the drone that has come to kill Jack. This shows the brutality is the movie Oblivion.
Julia and Jack then become partner and work together on their mission and so they saved humanity through their hard struggle. Movie “Oblivion” makes its characters feel real. The sounds effects of the movie are great and the score of Oblivion was composed by M83 which is a superb French electronic outfit. The concept of Oblivion was clear and the performances were subtler. Cruise himself announced before the screening that the film was actually the first feature “from start to finish”.
