In her latest documentary, Jennifer Lopez opens up about the emotional and psychological challenges she has encountered in previous relationships. She shares her experiences of feeling unloved and mistreated by partners who professed their love but acted contrary to the true meaning of the word.

Her revelations are part of “The Greatest Love Story Never Told,” which is accompanied by a special feature titled “This Is Me … Now: A Love Story.” Both pieces, which delve into Lopez’s journey and struggles, are accessible on Prime Video.

“You have to hit rock bottom where you’re in situations so uncomfortable and so painful that you finally go, ‘I don’t want this anymore.’”

One poignant segment, referred to as “The Glass House,” features Lopez performing her song “Rebound,” where she conveys the pain and turmoil of her past experiences. The emotional depth of this scene is underscored by Lopez’s reflection on a question posed by a therapist, who asked how she would react if her daughter were in an abusive situation, highlighting the gravity of recognizing and addressing abusive behavior.

“It was so clear. I’d tell her, ‘Get the f**k out of here and never look back,’ but for me, it was so clouded and complicated,” Lopez explains. “It was like looking through fog.”

Despite the emotional scars, Lopez clarifies that she was fortunate never to have been physically assaulted by any of her former partners. However, she candidly speaks about being “manhandled” and subjected to other demeaning treatments, though she chooses not to disclose any identities. Her 2014 memoir, “True Love,” had previously touched on her experiences of mental, emotional, and verbal abuse, further illuminating the challenges she faced.

Lopez’s personal life has seen its share of public interest, particularly her relationship with Ben Affleck. The couple, whose initial engagement was disrupted by intense media attention, reunited and married in a private ceremony in Las Vegas in July 2022, followed by a lavish celebration in Georgia. This time around, they have opted for a more private approach to their relationship, a decision influenced by their past experiences and a mutual understanding of the need for compromise, as Affleck mentions in the documentary.

“Then I sort of realized it’s not a fair thing to ask. It’s sort of like, you’re gonna marry a boat captain and you go, ‘Well, I don’t like the water.’”

Through her documentary, Lopez seeks to shed light on the complexities of love and relationships, emphasizing the importance of respect, understanding, and privacy in building a lasting partnership.
