Lily-Rose Depp concerned for privacy amid fame: ‘Protect What Belongs to You’
Lily-Rose Depp is navigating her growing fame while striving to maintain a sense of privacy and groundedness. The 25-year-old actress, who recently starred in the horror remake Nosferatu, opened up about the challenges of fame and her approach to balancing a public career with personal boundaries in an interview with The Daily Telegraph.
“Every job comes with a set of circumstances, and this [fame] is kind of one of them,” Lily-Rose said, reflecting on her rise in Hollywood. She emphasized the importance of protecting her personal life, stating, “The importance to me has been to maintain a sense of, like, privacy and grounded-ness and to protect [what] really belongs to you.”
The daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis also touched on the downside of being in the spotlight. “People are interested in things that they shouldn’t necessarily be interested in,” she remarked.
Lily-Rose elaborated on how fame can intersect with her craft as an actor. “The job of an actor is to go into a character and, like, melt into it — and make the audience believe you are this character,” she explained. “In order to do that, it’s important to protect a sense of anonymity.
They’re not supposed to get to know ‘you’ that well, ‘cause you want them to believe you as other characters.” Her journey in film began with her silver screen debut in the 2014 movie Tusk. However, her breakthrough performance came in HBO’s The Idol (2023), where she starred as a pop star opposite The Weeknd.
Discussing her approach to choosing roles, Lily-Rose highlighted the importance of versatility. “For me, it’s like a new challenge to dive into another world,” she said. “I’ve always been interested in taking on roles that feel quite different from each other.”
Her filmography includes Yoga Hosers (2016), Planetarium (2016), and Silent Night (2021), showcasing her diverse range as an actress.
As she continues to build her career, Lily-Rose remains focused on staying true to herself and protecting the aspects of her life she holds most dear. For fans and industry insiders alike, her perspective offers a thoughtful take on balancing artistry with the pressures of fame.
