The author of a new book on “Pirates of the Caribbean” star Johnny Depp alleges that the actor altered the truth about his turbulent past to mislead the jury during his high-profile 2022 trial against ex-wife Amber Heard.

In “Accidental Fixer,” Paul Barresi reveals a world filled with mental illness, treachery, substance abuse, and dysfunction within Depp’s family. Barresi, a private investigator hired by Heard, told The National Enquirer that his search for the truth led him back to Depp’s family roots.

“My search for the truth took me on a journey back to the Depp family’s roots,” Barresi explained. He delved into the lives of Johnny’s parents, uncovering troubling details about his mother, Betty Sue, and his father, Johnny Depp Sr.

According to Barresi, Betty Sue had been diagnosed with depression and mania and had attempted suicide. Johnny Depp Sr. had been arrested for driving under the influence, struggled to find steady employment, and had affairs with other women.

In his defamation trial against Heard, Depp provided dramatic testimony about his parents, which Vanity Fair reported on extensively. Barresi claims, however, that Depp falsified facts to win the case and secure a $10 million payout.

“Johnny’s gripping testimony highlighted Betty Sue’s aggressive, mercurial, and malevolent nature, drawing parallels to Amber. Conversely, his depiction of his father as the battered husband and victim resonated with the jury, suggesting similarities to Johnny himself. However, what I uncovered starkly contradicted the courtroom narrative,” Barresi wrote.

Depp portrayed Betty Sue as the villain responsible for the family’s dissolution, but Barresi asserts that Johnny’s father played a substantial role. He claims that the family’s frequent moves were primarily due to Depp Sr.’s struggle to find steady work, not Betty Sue’s behavior.

Additionally, Barresi contends that Johnny Depp Sr.’s affair with Marsha Johnson, a former high school beauty queen, led to his unexpected departure and Betty Sue’s suicide attempt. Depp Sr.’s arrest for driving under the influence also indicated a likely predilection for alcohol, according to Barresi.

Depp Sr. eventually married Marsha but divorced her and remarried just sixteen days later. Meanwhile, Betty Sue declared 16-year-old Johnny self-sufficient following the rupture of her marriage and went on to have five different spouses before her death from cancer in 2016.

Barresi’s revelations challenge the narrative presented during the trial and shed new light on the complex dynamics within Johnny Depp’s family.
