John Legend Opens Up About Son Miles’ Diabetes Diagnosis and Its Impact on His Family

John Legend recently opened up about how his six-year-old son Miles’ type 1 diabetes diagnosis has brought him and his wife, Chrissy Teigen, closer than ever. In an interview with PEOPLE on Saturday, the singer shared the emotional journey their family has been on since receiving the life-altering news.
It all began when Miles fell ill while attending summer camp, which led to what they initially thought would be a routine visit to the emergency room. “I remember he was in the ER, and they checked his blood sugar,” Legend recalled. “At first, we thought it might just be a reaction to the infection, but then came the news: he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.”
The diagnosis was a tough blow for the family, particularly for Teigen. “She was upset when she first heard,” Legend admitted. “But she’s been incredible—she’s learned everything she needs to know and has been so strong.”
As they navigate the new challenges of managing their son’s condition, Legend reflects on how the experience has only strengthened their bond as a couple. “It’s made us stronger,” he said, emphasizing how they’ve come together to support Miles and each other during this difficult chapter.
“As soon as I learned he had this, I knew it was going to be life-changing for him and for us,” Legend added. “But I also thought, ‘We can do this.’ We’ve got great advice, a lot of people offering support, and we’re learning what we need to know.”
The couple’s resilience has deepened their connection. Legend highlighted how the diagnosis has reinforced their sense of partnership. “This really speaks to us feeling like a team. We know we can handle this, and it just makes us stronger,” he shared.
Despite the challenges, Legend and Teigen are facing this new reality with determination and love, leaning on each other as they learn to manage their son’s condition together.
