Halle Berry Opens Up About Daughter Nahla’s First Heartbreak: ‘A Little Part of Me is Dying
Halle Berry recently shared her experience of supporting her daughter, Nahla, through her first heartbreak. During a roundtable event for her new film Never Let Go in New York, the 58-year-old actress opened up about the emotional challenges of motherhood, specifically when it comes to watching her teenage daughter navigate difficult emotions.
When asked by People magazine about the hardest part of letting go as a mother, Berry candidly reflected on her 16-year-old daughter’s recent emotional struggles. “She just was in a thing and she’s got her heart broken,” Berry said, acknowledging the pain Nahla was going through.
Berry admitted that, as a parent, it never gets easier to see your child hurt. “It’s just holding space, knowing that this is all part of growing,” she explained. “We’ve all been there, and knowing that in six months’ time, she’s going to forget about it.”
However, she also recognized the intensity of the moment for Nahla. “But right now, it’s the single most important thing to be rejected and have a breakup. She feels like she’s dying. A little part of me is dying, and I can’t tell her that because she’ll just say, ‘Mom, you don’t understand.'”
Berry acknowledged the difficulty of simply being there for her daughter, saying, “I just have to sit in it with her, and that’s really hard to do.” The Union actress added that she offers comfort by validating her daughter’s feelings: “I just have to say, ‘Yeah, this sucks, right? This sucks balls.’ I know, and you’re hurt.”
Berry is a devoted mother to her two children—Nahla, whom she shares with ex-Gabriel Aubry, and her son Maceo, whom she shares with ex-husband Olivier Martinez. As a mother, Berry remains a steadfast source of support, even when witnessing her children’s struggles brings its own heartache.
