Emily Blunt Laughs throughout Rock’s Oscars Interview After He Calls Her Out
Emily Blunt and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson last appeared onscreen together in Disney’s Jungle Cruise a few years ago. Yet their friendship seemed to have lasted. Yet, the actress was taken aback while stopping her former co-star’s newest interview when she heard what he had to say about her.
While neither was nominated for an Oscar in 2023, they were both in attendance to give the Best Animated Feature Picture award on Hollywood’s greatest night.
While speaking with Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet about coming onstage with his friend, the Rock observed Emily conducting her own interview next to him.
Recognizing the scenario, the Devil Wears Prada actor interrupted the Rock’s talk and, in an interesting twist, called her out with a comment she didn’t see coming.
“So, they were just asking me ‘Who’s the most talented, most brilliant actor you’ve ever worked with,” the Rock told Emily, who immediately quipped with, “Nicole Kidman — where is she?” But he surprised her when he said, “No, no. I said, Emily Blunt. Isn’t that right?”
Emily was surprised after receiving the kind compliment, but she quickly recovered, and she had her own question for the former WWE wrestler “Well, that’s incredibly nice. Have you worked with any other actresses?” she said during the ET segment.
Like the good friend he is, the Rock responded, “None that I care about after you, no.”
Fans expressed their support for their ongoing relationship after watching them ribbing one other while promoting their 2021 adventure film.
“The Rock and Emily [meet] again,” one person commented on YouTube. “I love this duo,” a different user agreed. “Frank and Lily reunited!” another added, referencing their characters in Jungle Cruise.
So, how did the two’s friendship build? The Rock allegedly sent Emily a personal video to persuade her to join the fantasy adventure project. Though he had never met the British native, he “always respected her as an actor” and appreciated her “cool and very, very charming” personality on talk shows.
“I must have shot [the video] about five or six times because I had not communicated with Emily yet,” he told The Hollywood Reporter in July 2021. “I had not even met her. And I wanted to let her know via this video just how important she was to this movie and how I only wanted her in this movie. And it was great.”
