Dua Lipa, the chart-topping sensation, recently unveiled a key ingredient to her remarkable success: she listens attentively to her critics. During the May 1, 2024 episode of Apple Music 1, hosted by the renowned Zane Lowe, the “Levitating” songstress candidly shared her approach to handling public scrutiny throughout her career.

In her insightful discussion with Lowe, Lipa delved into the topic of criticism, shedding light on her experiences with navigating negative feedback. One notable instance she addressed was the backlash she faced following her Grammy win for Best New Artist in 2019. Despite the prestigious accolade, Lipa found herself at the receiving end of disparaging remarks and unwarranted negativity from certain quarters of the public, reported Rolling Stone.

“I think everything comes in stages and waves,” the 28-year-old singer told Lowe.

“There can be a moment where people really love you and you feel so supported and you’re like, ‘Oh, this is great.’ Especially in the beginning. I was doing interviews and people were like, ‘How do you deal with hate?’ And I’m like, ‘I don’t get any hate. It’s great.’ And then that changed really quickly,” she added.

“There was people online being like, ‘She’s not deserving of it. She’s got no stage presence. She can’t do this. She’s not well-equipped to, she’s not even … She won’t be here next year,'” the pop star recalled. “There was a lot of that. That fueled me in a way,” Dua Lipa stated adding how she does not “use criticism as this revenge.”

However, instead of allowing the criticism to deter her, Lipa adopted a proactive mindset, choosing to heed the words of her detractors. By embracing criticism as constructive feedback rather than dismissing it outright, she transformed potentially detrimental comments into valuable learning opportunities. This willingness to confront and address criticism head-on has been instrumental in shaping Lipa’s growth as an artist and individual.

Moreover, Lipa’s openness to feedback reflects her resilience and adaptability in an industry known for its relentless scrutiny. Rather than shying away from criticism, she embraces it as an essential aspect of her journey toward self-improvement and artistic evolution.

Beyond her personal experiences, Lipa’s approach underscores a broader lesson in resilience and self-reflection. In an era where social media platforms amplify voices of both praise and criticism, her ability to maintain composure and derive value from adversity serves as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring artists and individuals alike.

As Lipa continues to ascend to greater heights in her career, her willingness to engage with criticism in a constructive manner remains a testament to her unwavering dedication to her craft. By embracing feedback with an open mind and a spirit of growth, she exemplifies the power of resilience and self-awareness in the pursuit of success.
