Céline Dion recently opened up about her decision to publicly share her Stiff-Person syndrome diagnosis. In an interview with Hoda Kotb on the Today show on June 10, Dion discussed her experience with the rare neurological disorder.

The “I’m Alive” hit-maker explained that she initially kept her diagnosis private as she was still trying to understand her health issues. Dion revealed that she began experiencing symptoms of the disorder during her Taking Chances World Tour in 2008.

“What did you want me to say? ‘I have… ‘what?’” said the 56-year-old. The singer remarked, “We did not know what was going on.” “I did not take the time I should have stopped, take the time to figure it out,” remarked the songstress. “My husband as well was fighting for his own life,” disclosed the singer.

Dion told the host, “I had to raise my kids, I had to hide. I had to try to be a hero.” Reflecting on her condition, the singer mentioned, “Feeling my body leaving me, holding on to my own dreams.” “I could not do this anymore. Lying for me, the burden was too much. Lying to the people who got me where I am today, I could not do it anymore,” she added.

Reflecting on her journey, Dion mentioned that she finally announced her diagnosis in an Instagram video in December 2022. “My Heart Will Go On” singer shared that during the early signs of her condition, her late husband René Angélil was undergoing treatment for throat cancer, adding another layer of complexity to her struggles.

Dion’s candid discussion sheds light on the challenges she has faced and her journey toward understanding and managing her condition. Fans can look forward to more insights into her life and career as “I Am: Céline Dion” premieres on Prime Video on June 25.
