Ben Affleck Smiles as Jennifer Lopez Delivers Speech after Accepting Icon Award
Jennifer Lopez‘s most recent achievement made Ben Affleck proud. At the iHeartRadio Music Awards on Tuesday night, the singer and actress got the Icon Award for this year. Her boyfriend was in the audience and watched her deliver a touching message to her fans. The event was also attended by Affleck’s 10-year-old son Samuel and Lopez’s 14-year-old daughter Emme.
“I appreciate this so much, so very, very much,” a smiling Lopez was quoted by People as saying. “I wish I could tell you that awards were the most important to me, but that’s not true. And don’t think that I don’t appreciate the shiny, sparkly things, because I do! I cannot lie, everybody knows that I do. But this isn’t why I do this. It’s not what matters most to me. I really do it for you guys.”
Several times throughout her speech, the “On The Floor” singer was interrupted by the cheering crowd. Throughout his girlfriend’s speech, Ben Affleck was beaming. The “Justice League” actor, Emme, and Samuel were seen clapping for Lopez. Emme was also photographed standing in front of the “Gone Girl” actor with her arms crossed and eyes on her mom.
As per hola, Lopez’s speech was focused on her gratitude to her fans for their support throughout the years. She thanked them constantly for giving her the opportunity to perform and for making her dream come true.
“Because of you, I get to do what I love the most in life and that is the most wonderful blessing,” Lopez added. “That’s a gift that you give me and I just want to say thank you for that. Thank you to everyone who comes to a show, streams a song, sees a movie, follows me. You guys are the ones who give me the opportunity every day to live a life I couldn’t even imagine would come true when I was a little girl growing up in the Bronx.”
She continued, “You did that for me. You made that dream come true. I’m shaking! And I will always be grateful to each and every one of you for that. And I will never forget it, and I will never, ever take it for granted. So I want to say thank you to every one of you for believing in me when other people didn’t, even when I didn’t. Thank you for teaching me who I really am.”
The “Hustlers” star ended by sharing her acronym for “Icon.” “I can overcome negativity,” she shared before adding, “Let me tell you something else. I’m just getting started.”
After receiving her award, Lopez performed a funky version of “On My Way” from her Valentine’s romantic-comedy film “Marry Me”. She also performed “Get Right,” a hit from 2005.
