Duchess Catherine Gives Birth to a Boy
Britain’s Duchess Catherine and Prince William have welcomed a son. The Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to the couple’s first child at 16:24pm BST today (22.07.13), Kensington Palace has confirmed in a statement. Prince William was in attendance for the birth, which occurred in the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London.
The newborn weighed 8lbs, 6oz, and mother and baby are said to be doing well and will remain in hospital overnight. Both the royal family and the duchess’ family have been informed of the news and all are said to be delighted. Prince William called Queen Elizabeth, his father Prince Charles, and brother Prince Harry to tell them the news prior to the announcement being made via an official press release. An easel announcing the royal birth was also placed on the grounds of Buckingham Palace, as is royal custom.
The royal couple did not wish to know the sex of their baby prior to the birth. Catherine, 31, was admitted to hospital this morning after going into labour. The newborn Prince of Cambridge will be third in line to the throne after his father, Prince William, 31, and grandfather, Prince Charles, following changes to the succession law prior to his birth. – Femalefirst
