Lara Trump sparked controversy after sharing a photo of a handwritten note on social media that she claimed was given to her by a supporter during a flight. The image, posted on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, showed a message written on a napkin, thanking Lara, her father-in-law Donald Trump, and the Trump family for their work.

According to Lara, the note came from a “middle-class housewife” she encountered at Detroit Metro Airport. While some found the gesture touching, many others accused her of staging the note. The napkin’s message read: “I want to thank you and your family for all you do for us. As a middle-class housewife married to a career firefighter, I want you to know you are appreciated.

Thank you, we are lucky to have you.” The note also included ‘#47,’ referring to Donald Trump’s potential return as the 47th president. However, skepticism quickly spread across social media. “I’ll take ‘Things That Never Happened’ for $500 thanks, Alex,” one user commented. Another pointed out the odd use of ‘#47,’ saying, “That’s an internal thing. It would have been Mrs. Trump or something else similar.”

The misspelling of ‘firefighter’ as ‘firefighter’ caught the attention of many. “What is a ‘firefighter’ and a ‘housewife’? Just saying, you really can’t make this stuff up,” one user joked. Another added, “As a middle-class wife married to a firefighter, I can assure you I know how to spell it and recognize a liar when I see one.” Others joked that the note seemed to be written by a Trump, given the spelling mistakes.

Doubt also arose about whether Lara had received the note at all. “Somehow I don’t see her hanging out in a public part of any airport where somebody could get close enough to pass her notes,” a skeptic remarked. Others pointed out inconsistencies in the handwriting, with one person observing, “How many different ways is she going to write the letter ‘Y’?”

Internet users were quick to dissect the finer details, with one posting, “Too much detail, dummy. Keep it simple without pretending it came from a middle-class firefighter. Then we might be fooled.” Another pointed out, “The letters smoothly crossing the crease of the napkin… something’s fishy.”

Lara previously mentioned on Fox News that she had received supportive notes on airplane napkins, using them to challenge polls showing Kamala Harris as a favored candidate. One commenter sarcastically remarked, “Three days ago, you said you were getting slipped notes on airplane napkins, and now, here we have one. It’s a miracle Eric’s handwriting is improving, but he still needs to work on his spelling.”
